Introducing Pencilera. Your Apple Pencil, is now a Camera Remote.

Today, Starlight Apps LLP is incredibly excited to share with you the launch of its first new app since we initially launched over a year ago. While our previous apps have focused on existing markets and trying to make the best version of those, today, we’re excited to launch an innovative new app that adds additional functionality to your existing Apple Pencil.

Introducing Pencilera, an iPad app that transforms your Apple Pencil into a camera remote. It’s simple yet incredibly useful. Imagine capturing photos with a group of people, standing away from your iPad. Setting timers can be tedious, as they only take a single photo. If you get the first one wrong, you have to start over. We realized that most iPad users already have a great tool with them that supports gestures—Apple Pencil 2 allows double tapping to trigger actions, and Apple Pencil Pro supports squeezing to do the same. We leveraged this opportunity to create an app that utilizes the Apple Pencil’s capabilities. When using Pencilera, the Apple Pencil becomes a camera remote. We created an ad to showcase Pencilera in action. We’d love to share it with you!

“Pencilera was actually a rather fun project for me to work on. I decided that it would only be fitting for a simple iPad app, to be built on an iPad. I took up the challenge to build the entire app on iPad from start to finish; I wanted to push the iPad to its limits and see how it works out. Keep in mind this was made using a 2020 iPad Air with an A14 chip- not the M1, M2 or M4 iPad. I think Pencilera turned out amazing, and everyone who uses it will enjoy the app. I’ve put a lot of love and care into designing small elements of the app, and I hope people notice and appreciate them. I’ve had the chance to demo the app in action to people over the last 2 months, and it has left nearly everyone impressed, and some even thinking that this was a native feature of the Apple Pencil from Apple. And that’s when you know you’ve built a great app.” shared Om Chachad, Chief Software Developer.

As a part of our open source initiative, we’re making Pencilera open sourced on GitHub. We’re welcoming fellow developers to contribute to the project, and empowering folks to learn from it. Privacy is at the heart of everything we build, and Pencilera builds up on that principle of not collecting any of our users' personal data.

After months of development and 25 days in App Store Review, Pencilera joins Linkeeper and snApp on the App Store and is out for users to install and try out today. It’s completely free to use, and comes with an optional set of tips that you can leave to support the development of this app. We’re excited for you to get your hands on Pencilera and to see what you do with it, we’re committed to improving this app overtime and we hope you enjoy using it.
